Mali Lošinj, Vladimira Gortana 35, Croatia

ANDRO VID MIHIČIĆ, Doctor of Science, poet and writer, art historian and full professor at the Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts, was born in Beli on the island of Cres on 26th March 1896 and died in Mali Lošinj on 26th January 1992.

His book “On the Sculptor Dujam Penić” was published in Paris in 1930. The books “Probes” and “Footsteps in the Dust” were published in Beli in 1988. "Knocking on the Door of the Secret” and “Illusions and Presentiments” were published in 1990 and 1991.

Towards the end of the year 1988 he donated his highly valuable collection of 87 works of art and manuscripts to his home town. The works by Kršinić, Vidović, Augustinčić, Radauš, Kerdić, Krstulović, Bošnjak, Janeš, Meštrović, Motika, Aralica, Filakovac, Mujadžić, V. Parać and others stand out among the most valuable items of the collection. The first exhibition of the collection was arranged and presented to the public in 1993. Today, in 1998, which is also the 10th anniversary of Mihičić’s splendid act of donation, the project of the Art Collections of Mali Lošinj is being completed. The collection will be exibited in a somewhat changed setup, this time, hopefully, for good.
